The 200-Hour Foundational Yoga Alliance Teacher Training by Sun Yoga School is an immersive and comprehensive journey into the heart of yoga, designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills to teach yoga with depth and authenticity. Rooted in the Ghatastha Yoga tradition, which emphasizes inner equilibrium and balance, this program covers a wide array of disciplines including Hatha Yoga, Kundalini, Ashtanga, anatomy and physiology, therapeutic yoga, mantra, bandhas, pranayama, and meditation. Over 30 transformative days, you will explore yoga's diverse facets, learn to integrate them into your life, and emerge as a skilled and compassionate yoga teacher. This 200 hrs TTC is also run in our Nepal branch "Kanchan yoga" (https://www.kanchanyoga.com/yoga-teacher-training-in-nepal/). 

 

This program is ideal for individuals at various stages of their yoga journey, whether they seek to deepen their practice, become skilled yoga educators, or embark on a transformative path of self-discovery and growth.

Our Core Curriculum

Techniques, Training, Practice (75 Hours):
    I. Asana
  • You will know the historical context of yoga asanas.

  • You will be given yoga poses specific to Ghatastha Yoga tradition.

  • You will be learning how to create a complete sequencing (asana, pranayama, meditation) to achieve particular effect safely.

  • You will understand the anatomical and alignment principles plus contraindications and limitations of each posture.

    II. Pranayama & Subtle Body
  • You will be learning the historical context of pranayama and subtle body.

  • You will explore the effects of pranayama on anatomy and subtle body.

  • You will learn how to create a complete sequencing of pranayama safely, including alternatives and adaptations such as Ujjayi, Nadi Shodhana, Kapalabhati, among others specific to Ghatastha Yoga tradition.

  • You will understand the concept of koshas, kleshas, chakras, nadis and pranavayus.

 

    III. Meditation

  • You will be learning major key meditation terms.

  • You will be learning specific meditation methods and techniques of Ghatastha Yoga tradition.

  • You will have the ability to practice Sun Yoga School meditation methods and techniques.

  • You will explore the arts of chanting, mantras, bandhas, and mudras.

 

Anatomy & Physiology (30 Hours):

    I. Anatomy

You will be learning about the skeletal system, incl.:

  • Major bones.

  • Types of joints.

  • Major muscles involved in asana.

  • Types of muscle contraction.

    II. Physiology

Another major human system you will be learning is the nervous system, incl.:

  • ‘Fight, flight, freeze’ stress response, vagal theory, and overall mind-body connection.

  • Cardiovascular/circulatory, endocrine, digestive systems as they relate to yoga practice.

  • Respiratory system, incl. muscles that affect breathing, involuntary vs voluntary breath, how air enters and leaves body.

    III. Biomechanics

  • You will get familiar with the types of joint movements.

  • Understanding about joint stabilization.

  • You will explore a safe movement as it pertains to balancing, stretching, awareness, and our physical limitations.

  • You will have a good understanding of contraindications, misalignments, and adaptations of the postures for specific health conditions or limitations.

Yoga Humanities (30 Hours):

    I. History

  • You will understanding that the term ‘yoga’ really is.

  • You will be learning about Ghatastha Yoga tradition, style, and methodology.

  • You will have a good grasp about the dates and key ideas such as the Vedas, Vedanta, Hatha, Colonial, Modern yogic traditions.

    II. Philosophy

  • You will learn about the definition of yoga and key terms.

  • You will learn how asana, pranayama, meditation and other yogic concepts and techniques are interrelated. How yoga as a way of living and being, and how to approach yoga holistically, not just at a physical level.

  • You will have familiarity w/ major yogic texts (i.e., Yoga Sutras, Bhagavad Gita, Upanishads, Hatha Yoga Pradipika, Gheranda Samhita).

  • You will be given the time for self-reflection on how philosophy relates to practice for your day to day life.

    ​III. Ethics

  • You will have the awareness of Yoga Sutras or similar yogic ethical precepts as a foundation for your practice.

  • You will understand the relationship to Yoga Alliance Ethical Commitment including Scope of Practice, Code of Conduct, and Equity Position Statement.

  • You will have the comprehension of and responsibility to increase equity in yoga.

  • You will know about Accountability measures and what to do about it.

  • You will have a self-reflection session on how yoga ethics relate to practice and teaching.

Professional Essentials (50 Hours):

    I. Teaching Methodology

  • You will be learning about sequencing a yoga class.

  • You will understand about pace and flow in a sequence.

  • You will explore about environment cueing (verbal, visual, physical) when conducting a class.

  • You will be practicing and learning about class management.

    II. Professional Development

  • You will get an exposure about yoga-related professional organizations, including the Yoga Alliance credentialing processes.

  • You will understand about Ethical Commitment, including Scope of Practice, Code of Conduct and Equity Position Statement.

  • You will know how to approach a lifetime of learning and continuing education to maintain a high standard of quality as a yoga teacher.

  • You will learn how to maintain a general professionalism, including timeliness, consistency, and cleanliness.

  • You will have a support in terms of marketing and promotion.

  • You will know about liability insurance, waivers, and invoicing to support you career as a yoga teacher.

    ​III. Practicum (Practice Teaching)

  • You will display a commitment and confidence in the knowledge, skills, and experience across the 12 key competencies.

  • You will be given a mentorship component, incl. apprenticeship, and feedback throughout your study to make sure that you are equipped with foundational knowledge and expertise to guide you professionally and holistically on your yogic journey.

Our Schedule

Daily Schedule (Weekdays):

Week 1 - Embarking on the Yogic Path:

  • Morning meditation and Hatha Yoga practice to align body and mind.

  • Philosophical teachings and discussions on yoga's essence and application.

  • Healing and cleansing practices to create a strong foundation.

  • Introduction to various yoga schools, styles, and their unique contributions.

  • Evening meditation and kirtan (chanting) for inner tranquility.

Week 2 - Art of Teaching and Holistic Well-being:

  • Anatomy and physiology sessions to understand the body's intricacies.

  • In-depth study of asana, pranayama, and therapeutic yoga techniques.

  • Embracing the art of living through yoga's principles and practices.

  • Nature exploration, holy bath, and discussions on yoga philosophy.

  • Developing teaching methodology and crafting effective yoga classes.

Week 3 - Becoming a Confident Teacher:

  • Practical teaching sessions within the group, offering and receiving feedback.

  • Observing and correcting alignment, adjustments, and healing techniques.

  • Deepening understanding of class sequencing and structuring.

  • Hands-on practice of teaching others with confidence and compassion.

Week 4 - Refinement and Graduation:

  • Clearing doubts and engaging in Q&A sessions with experienced teachers.

  • Cultural programs, artistic expressions, and creative sessions.

  • Delve into the silence with dedicated meditation practices.

  • Graduation ceremony featuring art displays and performances.

  • Final assessments including a written assessment and teaching demo.

This fee covers your entire training experience, with the exception of personal expenses and laundry services.

Upon acceptance into the program, the applicant must pay a deposit of US $500 to hold their place in the program. Final invoices will be emailed ten (10) weeks before the start date of training. The deadline to pay in full is eight (8) weeks prior to the start date of training. In case the application is made ten (10) weeks before the training starts, a fifty percent (50%) deposit is required to secure the space. Applications made eight (8) weeks before the training starts will need to pay the tuition fee in full.

Our Location

Nestled in the serene surroundings of Ubud, our yoga school is conveniently located just 10 minutes from the vibrant heart of Ubud center. Here, you will find a tranquil haven set amidst lush rice paddies, offering picturesque views that inspire your practice. Our spacious villa complex boasts a generously sized swimming pool for your relaxation and a dedicated 10x10m yoga shala where you can immerse yourself in your yoga journey.

Accommodation

During your training, you'll reside in our comfortable studio apartments, thoughtfully designed to accommodate four participants. These apartments are situated within our villa complex, providing a harmonious blend of community living and personal space. Each room is equipped with its own ensuite bathroom and modern amenities to ensure your comfort throughout your stay.

Food

Our culinary offerings are centered around a simple yet nourishing vegetarian menu, thoughtfully crafted to provide you with the essential nutrients needed to support your training activities. We serve three wholesome meals a day, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner. If you have specific dietary requirements or preferences, feel free to bring your own food and supplements to complement your meals.

Getting to Our Place

Upon your arrival in Bali, head towards the enchanting town of Ubud. You have the option to utilize the tourist Teman Bus, which can transport you to the main station along Monkey Forest Road, where our team can arrange your pick-up. Alternatively, you can also opt for pick-up at the Ubud Palace. If you arrive by air, we will be delighted to pick you up directly from the airport.

Transportation During the Program

Throughout your training, transportation will be provided for program-related activities. However, for personal excursions or matters, we recommend utilizing taxi apps, hiring a car with a driver, or renting motorcycles. If you choose to ride a motorcycle, please ensure that you are confident in your riding skills and possess the required international driving license.

What to Bring or Pack

We suggest packing the following items for your tropical island adventure:

  • Your yoga attire and gear.

  • A white dress and white shirts and pants for specific occasions.

  • Swimwear for pool and beach relaxation.

  • Comfortable clothing suitable for a tropical climate.

  • Balinese people are generally friendly and may ask personal questions. Respond kindly, but remember you're not obligated to share personal details.

  • A smile is a universal language – use it freely.

  • Avoid touching people's heads, as it's considered impolite.

  • When seated in public places or restaurants, avoid pointing your feet directly at someone, as this is considered impolite.
